How To Clean A Vaporizer

How To Clean A Vaporizer

Todd FosterJun 17, '22

Your vaporizer can become dirty after your first session. If you do not clean your vaporizer frequently or properly, the vapor quality can be negatively affected, and your vape may be permanently damaged.

The sticky residue of cannabis oil or dry herbs can build up in the heating chamber, making the vapor taste burnt or harsh. Similarly, the residue can impact your vape's metal or plastic parts. For example, the vapor path can become gunked up with residue, restricting the airflow and making it more difficult to draw.

In this blog, we will teach you how to clean a vaporizer. We will explain the cleaning methods for both dry herb and oil vaporizers so you can enjoy a clean vaporizer.

How Often Should I Clean My Vaporizer?

Vaporizers need regular cleaning to stay in the best shape. We recommend that you clean out the debris and residue after every session. While this may sound like a lot of work, it will make the cleaning process fast and easy. After all, a frequent quick clean is much more efficient than thorough scrubbing.

How To Clean A Vaporizer

Whether you have a high-end vaporizer or the cheapest solution, you should take care of your device. Follow our step-by-step instructions to get your vaporizer cleaned properly.

What You Will Need:

  • Paper towels
  • Brush
  • Cotton balls
  • Cotton swabs or pipe cleaners
  • Isopropyl alcohol

1. Prepare For Cleaning

First things first, you need to take a break from using your vaporizer. Vaporizer parts can become hot with use (specifically, the heating element), and you do not want to hurt yourself on hot parts while cleaning your device. To be on the safe side, do not use your vaporizer for at least one hour before you plan to clean it.

During this time, you should gather all the materials mentioned above. You can also read your vaporizer's user's manual if you still have it. The manual should cover vaporizer cleaning, including the best way to clean your unit.

2. Clean Out The Heating Chamber

Open up your vaporizer and empty any leftover herbs from the herb chamber. Make sure to remove all the stray buds and powder.

It's time to break out your cleaning kit! Grab a small cleaning brush and brush it around the chamber to remove any loose debris.

3. Clean The Screen

Remove the screen and give it a brush. The brush will wipe away any loose deposits stuck on the screen. If there are any fine bits leftover, soak the screen in hot water and rubbing alcohol overnight. After it has soaked, let it air dry on a paper towel. Alternatively you can soak the screens in our Higher Standards ISO Pure or Green Goddess Cleaner for 5-10 minutes for sparkling clean screens.

4. Wipe It Down With Isopropyl Alcohol

Now that the herb chamber is emptied and brushed, it is time to sanitize it.

Soak a cotton swab or ball in isopropyl alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol, also known as rubbing alcohol, is an antiseptic that can destroy bacteria in 10 seconds. It is safe and effective for cleaning vaporizers, so you do not have to worry about it ruining your vaporizer's plastic, ceramic, or steel elements.

Take a cotton ball soaked in isopropyl alcohol, then use it to clean the bowl. Then let it dry completely.

We also offer isopropyl alcohol wipes (Higher Standards and Zeus) and cotton tips (Zeus) for this purpose. Quick and convenient!

5. Clean The Mouthpiece

The way you will clean the mouthpiece of your vape depends on the type. We have broken it down into two sections below:

Glass

  1. Clean the exterior with warm water and isopropyl alcohol to remove dirt or dust.
  2. Scrub the glass surfaces with a brush. If they require a thorough cleaning, use a q-tip with isopropyl alcohol.

All Other Types (Wood, Metal, and Plastic Elements)

  1. Clean the exterior with warm water and isopropyl alcohol.
  2. Forcefully blow into the mouthpiece to remove any debris. If there is still debris inside, rinse the vaporizer under running water to dislodge it. But be aware: you need to let the device dry completely before using it again.
  3. Use a cleaning brush to clean the inside. If the piece is too narrow for a brush, use a toothpick or pipe cleaner.

We also carry metal and wood cleaning sticks to get your vaporizer clean and free of debris.

6. Enjoy Clean Vapor

You are done cleaning your dry herb or oil vaporizer! Now you can put it back together again and start vaping.

Keep Your Vape Clean

It is important to maintain a consistent cleaning schedule for your vaporizer. When you clean your vaporizer often, it will be easily cleaned and help preserve your vape's quality. You will not have to buy a new vaporizer for a long time!
